Needle scaler like marxjunk says but that may have been done to make up for whatever happened just before the "A" stamp. Looks like a 3 got misplaced?

Unfortunately, I believe my step-father is his latest victim. He purchased two 12 bolt's (A BV and a BE) and a distributor from him. I will post some pics of the stamps this evening. He's hoping that they are the real deal but I am not so sure after reading this thread.
