Grumpy only had one 70 1/2...the pics are of the original car completely restored to the era when Grumpy owned and built it...I have looked at a zillion pictures from lot of magazines...the RS style front is correct...it was sold to Grumpy as a "body in white"..the gold leaf work on the sides of that car is incredible...I was fortunate to see the car in person and hear it run before it went out to York....quite a piece of history....hey Brian and Mike....since you went to York you can't come to SCR now.. I really think Grumpy's Toy should be down there on display...

I second that, maybe we can even talk Mike into making a few passes at the track... How cool would it be to see Grumpy's Toy coming off the line with the nose up like in all those old National Dragster ads and articles from the early 70's?

I've always thought this cover shot was hardcore.

I'll also never forget Ed Hedrick's story about how he'd set up the chassis on his DY Yenko Super Stocker with the help of Grump Jenkins, by doing 6,000 RPM launches while Grump watched how the tires, springs, and pinion would react. Sounds like a logical enough practice, except that the 6 grand launches were made in a 30ft garage while Grump would lay alongside the car. Ed has always said the Grump would do "whatever it takes" to win, and that he probably had more speed secrets up his sleeve than Smokey Yunick. to them all.

I 2nd that 'S-Kid', Ed was telling that story - sounded normal till he said how he'd lock the brakes up to keep from smacking the garage wall

The Grump looked the car over carefully at York. He was asked if he thought it was his old one and he said "maybe, or it could be Zul's"
