I "traded" my Porsche Carrera GT and another Porsche for a 1963 Shelby Cobra with 9200 original miles as Colin (the troublemaker) knows since he brokered the deal for me. The Porsche Carrera GT value was sinking like a rock and the Shelby is a rapidly appreciating asset.

I bought a Ford GT after Colin spent months and numerous frustrating trips to the Ford dealer trying to fix all the problems with his Ford GT and figuring out how to correct the voluminous factory defects that will have to be addressed after I receive my car and before I can drive it with any margin of reliability.

AND then only after Colin spent thousands of dollars getting his factory slug up to 620 HP at the wheels and I had the chance to drive the beast at Colins shop. In other words I let Colin trail blaze a trail for me before I bought one. The Ford GT styling is iconic perhaps one of the best looking cars ever built IMHO, but it is a defect riddled Ford. I just bought a new Ford Expedition this week and got, oh about 20 miles before the A/C broke when it was 109 degree's out here. Same thing happened to my 2004 Ford Dually when I bought it. I am taking it to be fixed at an independent and not even wasting my time at a Ford dealer. There is a reason why Ford is on the verge of bankruptcy and it's not because of the quality control which is almost non existent.

What were the original dyno numbers on your Ford GT Colin? 420 HP at the rear wheels from the factory in stock tune??? Why not share that with us plus all your horror stories and breakdowns with your car? The only reason I bought one is now after your saga I know what to fix before I drive mine and I have a decent Ford collection and still bleed Ford oval blue for better or worse. Plus after it's modded it's a freakin animal and a blast to drive.

C'mon Les, I warned you I was going to have some fun with this info. I think it is great you got a GT, we finally agree on something

OK, you asked for dyno numbers:

-Stock, first pull: 454 HP @ wheels
-Stock, plugs cleaned and gapped to .035" : 532 HP @ wheels
-2.7" blower pulley and base HP tune: 594 HP
-Modified tune: 618 HP

I have not tested it yet with the headers, intake air boot air foil, or the new special spark plugs. I am guessing it should be around 640 HP +/- at the wheels. Not bad for about $6k in mods.

Problems? Yep, a few:
-Loose hose clamp on bypass hose spraying coolant at 50 miles. Tightened clamps.
-Supercharger had oil leak from front seal at 1,000 miles. Ford sent a factory engineer out and replaced the blower at my shop, under warranty.
-Engine cover was hard to close, same engineer adjusted the latches and it is fixed.
-Transaxle leaked fluid from the vent when the car was driven hard - fluid would expand and some would reach the vent. Very common problem. The fix was buying the Ford Racing transaxle cooler kit and installing it. $1500 part and about 45 min. install. No more oil leak.

Overall, I am very pleased and love the car. It is a blast to drive, and it is fun to let friends drive it and come back saying "WOW! I gotta get one of these!". I think I know a guy from Vegas that did that

For the record, yes, I have had issues and bugs to work out of this car. However, nowhere near as bad as my 2004 GMC, 2005 Audi S4 Jennifer bought, or even my old 2002 Z06 that had a NEW ENGINE under warranty at 1000 miles because the cylinder sleeves were leaking coolant into the oil. Hey, nothing is perfect, especially (hate to say it, but) cars from Detroit!

Best part is, when you are flogging the GT you forget having to go to the dealer a few times to get it right

Probably old news as it was months ago but did you guys read the news report of the innocent GT getting torched by a disgruntled Ford Escape customer?

~ Pete

------------------------------------------------------------

Gerald Georgettis apparently thought he got a raw deal on a new car. So he plowed the Ford Escape he didn't want through the glass showroom, poured gasoline on it and set the North Dade Metro Ford dealership ablaze, Miami-Dade police said Sunday. He caused nearly a million dollars in damage, scorching around a dozen cars, including a rare Ford GT Heritage, fire officials said. Georgettis, 56, a supervisor with the city of North Miami Beach, walked away from the dealership Saturday afternoon as if nothing had happened, witnesses said. Police caught up with him a few blocks away from the dealership at 9000 NW Seventh Ave. He was arrested without incident. Police charged him with first-degree arson, a felony, and with felony criminal mischief. He posted a $1,500 bond on Sunday. Georgettis could not be reached for comment. The dealership manager declined to comment. But those who know Georgettis were shocked at his apparent act of buyer's rage. North Miami Beach Mayor Raymond F. Marin was stunned to hear Georgettis, whose duties include managing the city's Jules Littman Performing Arts Theater, could do such a thing. ''He's a nice guy. I didn't know him to be malicious or anything,'' Marin said. ``He's always been nice to me and to people he knows.'' It's unclear what Georgettis' status with the city will be due to his arrest. The incident played out on a busy Saturday afternoon at the dealership. According to Miami-Dade Police, Georgettis was fuming over the price he paid, a new one goes for about $20,000 and it's unknown what price he paid for a new beige Ford Escape SUV. On Saturday he went back to the dealership. It's unclear what he was told, but he was angered with the final agreement. He calmly got into the car and drove it through the windows, sending glass shattering everywhere. He then doused gasoline or a flammable fluid on the Escape and other cars and struck a match. Denise Cruz, another customer, witnessed the jaw-dropping incident. She had brought her car to be serviced and said she was in line when she saw Georgettis careen into the showroom. ''At first I thought someone had pushed the accelerator instead of the brakes by accident,'' she said. ``But this dude drove through the showroom on purpose.'' Cruz, described the scene as ''pure panic,'' with people screaming ''he's got a bomb!'' She said that once the man was in the showroom, she saw him reach over into the passenger side for something, then heard a loud ``boom.'' ''Flames were everywhere,'' she said. But to her surprise, Georgettis, wearing a bright orange shirt and khaki shorts, was calm and strolled away. The fire spread throughout the dealership and destroyed cars, computers and paperwork. Among the cars damaged was a rare baby blue 2006 Ford GT ''Heritage,'' a limited edition model of only 250 made that sells for $150,000. A similar rage incident happened in 1994 when Stephanie Elaine Harden, angered at Pep Boys mechanics, walked into the store's showroom at 3388 N. State Road 7 and poured gasoline on the floor, then lit a match. She was arrested on charges of arson.
