why did he not realize his old truck had a ZL1 motor in it until he was in the process of pulling it out? He can't tell a ZL1 from an old truck motor if it has a coat of krylon on it?

[/ QUOTE ]

Although it is hard to believe that he did not know since the truck was his...unless he bought it that way....

I bought the original ZL-1 motor for my car(years prior to buying the car) at Carlisle swap meet on a Sunday afternoon after 3/4 of the vendors had gone home. I was actually p. o.'ed that I drove all the way there not realizing that everyone left Carlisle early.Anyway, the motor was completely painted orange so noone all weekend even paid it any attention. If it wasn't for my then 15 year old little brother mentioning that we just passed by a ZL-1 motor,I wouldn't have even noticed it. Once the owner fired it up on the little engine stand with the zoomy headers, every vendor left at the meet wanted to buy it...Thank God I already had bought it(assuming it ran).
....Maybe even a stranger thing is that I did not realize it was an "original with vin" ZL-1 motor for atleast 2 years after I owned it...Many professional dealers and persons way more expert than myself did not notice all weekend that it was a ZL-1 motor ...only because it was painted orange.

i believe ZL-1 # 35 or 36 was "found" just a few years ago with Z-28 emblems...the title apparently had a digit wrong on the vin, so the car was 'lost' in DMV for years so to say...and bought for a song..
What would you guys be saying if somone posted on here about some guy with truck containers welded shut full of big blocks, Copos and Yenkos??
So never say never...my point is that atleast the guy deserves a chance to prove his story before he gets totally trashed...time will tell...

[/ QUOTE ] I dont think its the fact noone wants to believe the story.I dont know Joey, but i think when you list 10 bolts thinking they are 12 bolts,m20s as m21s,and then tell of a junk yard full of camaros and the guy ends up not wanting to sell anything thats worth anything ,the casual observer would tend to feel that a ZL1 story is just another misunderstanding or hoax.

I don't know about the 10 bolt/12 bolt, m21/m22 issues Chuck, but I went to the Tn junkyard with Joey. The owner, probably in his 30's didn't have many teeth, but he did have a bunch of Camaro's and would not sell any of them.
Wish I'd taken a camera so I could show some of the odd cars n parts I saw that day...I seem to recall a Rambler with Yenko stripes on it A tiny car with a 512 block & alum heads.
It was a good day & I'd go again

Turns out the arc of the covenant I took out of Atlantis the other day ended up being a set of 262 Monza heads, and they were sold already.

Sorry guys.
