I have to agree with you. It sure doesn't seem right to end an auction of this type early but we do not know the details. Perhaps someone made an offer to the seller that he thought was a good deal and acted on it or on the extreme other hand maybe the auction was bogus. Yes this auction could have been done to advertise the car... set a high reserve and have associates bid on it. We don't know without further details.

I myself was going to write a post about the possibility of the buyer having friends post fictitious bids to pump the price of this car but looking at who the bidders are there sure seem to be credible buyers in the crowd (as well as some brand new E-bay accounts). But if there was even just one real buyer in the crowd then the price is a realistic one. Someone being willing to pay that price.

All of it is supposition in this case because it all occurred below the reserve. An auction like this leaves more questions than answers. If the action had occurred above the reserve and the car sold then there would be no questions. It would have been bid for at a price that the car would have changed hands at. I could put a toothpick for sale on Ebay with a $30,000 reserve and have friends bid it up to $29,999.... would it then be worth the $29,999 just due to the fact it got to that level on an Ebay auction? You tell me.

I do not know this car, seller or anything else about this auction. It may well be 100% honest and someone did bid it up to $148,000. I would welcome someone who has any facts to post them. The only point I am trying to make is 'caveat emptor'. Know what you are buying and what it should be worth. If you are buying something of this high dollar amount on an online auction contact the seller see the vehicle and do the homework.

Good point. It's just like the yellow Xram car at B-J, everyone with an X77 Xram car thinks its worth 116k. Either they don't know or tell you that that sale fell through. Now people see this Carolina Blue car at 148k and just like that, their car is worth 148k. This sort of thing only help the money hungry and not the pure hobbyists.

The valuation levels of the real cars are becoming pretty scary.About two years ago Chris B at TRM was selling an LA 69 RSZ cross ram/JL8,Cortez/black vinyl top,just about every option availible was ordered,and had docs..I waited a day too long and he sold it to a collector in the N.E. for the asking price of 75k.My freind and I figured out it had to have been the same car another teenage friend bought from the original owners mother in 1978,it had been sitting in a sub garage on Wilcox ave in Hollywood with four flats and an inch of dust.He persuaded her to let it go-for $700.00.There are no more free lunches

I have ended quite a few auctions before they were finished,,, the old "bird in the hand" I have known several folks that have let em run,, just to end up with sum 16 year old on the other end with no intention or means to buy a mo-ped let a lone a 20-50K car,,, JMHO
