The 1970 Z/28 would have had the "Delco Remy" "Patent Pending" R distributor cap from the factory. The "Patent" 2769047 and the cap without letters would be a service replacement cap.

Chuck, the cap you have in the picture is not assembly line correct for a 1970 Z/28. The cap is a later style replacement cap that was used in 1973 production. They made several different versions of this cap. The one you have 2769047 with aluminum contacts, 2769047 R both with aluminum and copper contacts, and some had other letters like T and BH on top of the cap.

early and late "patent pending" caps.

Pic 1 is earlier type. No "R" Pic 2 is later type with "R". They are saying you need bottom type. |

Did the " PATENT 2769047 R " not start until 1973 ??? and all 70-72 received the PATENT PENDING....... Thanks for your patience, if you have any left Ive asked Charley Lillard to get a picture of the assy line cap on his former LOW milage 70 Z............

"Patent Pending" cap is for 1968 and earlier for all GM models.
