The Firestone racing tires in '67 had gold letters and a gold pinstripe.

----Used to use those Firestone racing tires on my every day driver 69 435hp Corvette coupe. 8 inch slots on the front and 10 inch slots on the back. Was living in Ft Liquerdale at the time and didn't have any weather worries.....Bill S

Looking through the photos here is the source evidence provided to Welday that led to the conclusion that they must have been crayoned.
Here is a pace car upon arrival. It obviously is tab marked to avoid confusion by ZONE personnel AND is pictured here wearing an apparently entirely different set of tires. |
