From what I've been able to determine Photobucket is rolling out the 3rd Party Hosting policy in phases as some members report receiving notice from the company later than I did. I don't mind paying Photobucket a reasonable subscription fee for hosting my photos maybe in the range of $50 - $100 annually however $400 per year is neither economic, competitive nor reasonable. In the meantime hundreds of my photos and tens of thousands of others that were posted to this and other forums are potentially lost as most forums don't permit modifications to posts after a predetermined period of time.

I like Imgur. You don't even need an account. It's great.
You just upload (don't even need to publish) and copy the image link.

I received the same message from Photobucket. I won't be paying that much for their services. They've really gone down the tubes in the last few years as far as speed and junk ads. I'll be happy to say good bye to them, but am disappointed that so many of the photos I have posted will not be able to be viewed in the future. All good things come to an end, this is no exception.

eventually were all gonna miss our "Kodachrome"... when hard drives fail, thumbdrives get lost, websites crash and the "cloud" holds your stuff ransom, we'll all wish we could open that envelope full of glossy's and negatives.

Update. I've been investigating alternatives to Photobucket and experimenting with a couple, here is a partial list that I've reviewed, both free and subscription based:
Amazon Prime, Cubeupload, Dropbox, Flickr, Fotki, Google Drive, Imageshack and there are several more. The hosting service I am gravitating to is Flickr. Its owned by Yahoo, is a free service, easy to use and intuitive, allows you to size/resize and edit photos. No doubt there are other good choices however Flickr is turning out to be a good alternative for me: Flickr hosted/linked photo: ![]() |
