More transmission info:-)

"LOL, the dentist did a good painless cleaning. I agree with you regarding putting something back together as it came apart with pieces missing. The most common deletion is a cluster shim. I have found them many times stuck to the bottom magnet. They are tricky to get in place and a real pain if you use too much grease on the cluster bearings. The transmissions where I found the shims on the case bottom require a main case change as the cluster, without a .146 shim on one end, walks and grinds away the case. Not pretty.

Spent a little time in the garage last night, heater works:-) bins are preped for small parts:-) but....

I am already hurting for space and the single bare bulb is wholly inadequate:-(

Step by step:-)

I have to make shelves high on one side of the garage for totes and parts like driveshaft for example otherwise I am not going to accomplish anything:-(

Time to do a few chores around the house, then take off my apron and measure up for shelves to see what lumber is needed:-)

I also hope to take the exhaust to the igloo (again to make room to move.)

Ryan

The one thing I did get done was mop up the oil that spilled out of the M22, (rookie here stored it for a few days with the tail down) the oil pooled around all kinds of wheeled carts, etc, took an hour to soak it up:-(

Learning every single day:-)

What great Humor....I believe most of us have all done these silly mistakes....just mostly in our teen`s and 20`s.
All good stuff Ryan.

Yes....organization, cleanliness and proper lighting is key.....without the three I just cannot function

Ryan, when we moved into out current house 13 years ago, I knew the garage was going to go for a new version sooner rather than later and I had a similar lighting issue. I ended up getting hold of some 4' double fluro lights and put plugs on the end so I could run a lead to it. I hung them in position so I could work on my race car. Worked great as a temporary measure and was relatively inexpensive. Whatever you decide I'm sure you'll get past it. Keep the hammer down, your going great!

Thanks Damien!!

Funny, I bought 4 double 4 foot T8 fixtures and a box of day light bulbs, and BX, connectors, anti shorts, etc.......this way I can save the flashlight for special occasions:-)

I also measured everything and made a layout for the garage and sketched up some desperately needed shelves!!! (Including the extra engine, trans, compressor, Jack, garbage can, etc..... All the stuff I am tripping over at every turn.

Ryan

A big thank you to Dave (northernforce')

He spent New Year's Eve searching for a set of trailing arms to donate to my resto project!!!

How nice is that?

Many thanks Dave!!!

Ryan

PS: he sent me a link to a friends website especially for the control arm information. I checked the uppers last night at midnight as I couldn't wait till the morning to find out if mine are the "12 bolt style" (corner cut and extra plate welded in place) or "10 bolt style" mine are "10 bolt style" as the Olds 12 bolt is actually a 10 bolt rear with 12 bolts holding the cover in place.

Nick is like a dog on a bone!!!

My transmission will be the first part of the car to be ready for use:-)

"Ryan,

I started to look through the new parts already delivered. I am still waiting for the gear set which is sitting at my local FedEx office. They should be here tomorrow. I also looked closer at the parts I intend to reuse and found that this trans had 1 “wide” hub and 1 “narrow” hub. See the attached picture. Either one will work but they should match the brass. This trans had the brass for the wide hubs. I should have a wide hub which is what the trans came with originally. Narrow hubs started in 1969.

Nick"
