----Yup Don,,, Very good detective work on Petes part. Id still love some input on any connection between Reedman and Baldwin (not that I think there is any). In any event this seller is basicly busted IMHO!!!! Other than the profit motive I just cant figure out what he thought he would acomplish because what I pointed is so very simple to spot, and the old add just glues the whole thing together.......Bill S

I grew up and still live 5 mins from Reedman Chevrolet. I have no memory of or have never heard of any Motion cars and/or connection between that dealer and Motion performance..for what it is worth...

Pete,
I agree with the hand written numbers having no relation to each other. My 67 Lynndale Benchmark roadster was vin # 194677S103231 & had 270 ? grease penciled on the firewall below the heater box. The tank sheet had a totally different number (which I don't remember) I sold it to a Tom O'Grady out of "The Woodlands" Texas in 1999. I sure mss that car! Bill |

I never heard of a Reedman/Baldwin Motion thing either. As big as Reedman is and was not sure if they would need a BM outlet but it sounds good.

Think the three AIR cars were Clippinger Chevrolet in West Covina CA. The tank sheet numbers should have some relation to the actual VIN. My '67 17211 has 210 on the tank sheet. My '67 7228 has 227 on the tank sheet. I've always felt theres a strong relation, but it's not proof positive as I've seen some off by eight or nine digits. The plus 500 mentioned is true, also. VIN #663 has 163 written on it.

It would be VERY hard to find a color match[rare colors] original build sheet 435 w super early build date to mate with the car. You still have to find a 435 tank sticker in those colors with about a few weeks from start of production.

I think we're all long past the subject car having anything to do w/ Motion besides added emblems, plate frame and ridiculous story also again depending on what's original to the car it may have more value than it probably ends up reaching on eBay?
As far as the hand written build sequence #'s on the tank sheets go, even though some examples and ranges may correlate to Vins better than others, counting on this as a fact went out the window years ago. The 3 '68 L88 AIR cars were picked up at Jantzen Chevy probably to speed up the process and ensure safety of the cars but they were indeed ordered through Fred Gledhill, what's confusing is Clippinger salesman Bob Wingate was the man behind the deal! Maybe Gledhill processed the deal w/ none or less markup than could happen through Clippinger or perhaps the financier had something to do w/ it all, who knows? Traco who prepped the engines being located right near Clippinger only adds to the confusion too. Love these cars, wonder how Garner's doing?
