If you can pull out the key, the lock cylinder is bad. Immediately replace the ignition key assembly. You have to pull the steering wheel to do it but it is rather easy if you have a repair manual. Go to a locksmith and buy the new GM lock cylinder with key. Don't bother with the aftermarket ones. They tend to have quality problems such as missing things like an accessory position. (I learned that the hard way).

I always replace all the locks when I buy a car - common sense safety precaution. It's also just as wise to do it when you move to a new house or apartment. You never know who has old keys.

This may be a dumb question, but is there any way they can key the new ignition key assembly to my key? I really don't like the idea of having 3 different keys for the car (ignition, door & trunk), plus the keys I have are the originals that came with the car way back when.

Also, thank y'all for all the kind words about my car. I'm really loving it.

I meant I'm really loving/enjoying the car, not just the kind words.

Yes, a good locksmith can rekey your ignition and door locks too.

Cool ride. My 2 cents. When you have a little spare time, shoot the grille filler panel argent unless you like it body color. The pro touring Nova guys tend to go body color, while the traditionalists stick with the original argent.
Either way, drive it like you stole it.
