Default water neck 660

I want to put the correct waterneck in my 1969 L78 Camaro (built 2D) , but I have seen different versions of the 660. 1)cast # on flange, 2)cast # in large font on tube 3)cast# in small font on tube , which is correct for my application? Also does '69 have a date code? Thanks for the help.

My low-mile 1969 Z has the 660 water neck with the casting number embossed on the flange. Have also had a few original 1969 350 Chevelles with the same neck. I do not believe these are date coded. Hope this helps, Tony

I've seen the necks with the numbers cast on the flange on unmolested smallblocks.
The ones casted on the tube,on Big Blocks.
Can't really say which ones of those had small font to large though.

was under the impression that they went from tube to flange sometime in the 69 model year, but I don't know when. I have one of each in case I ever find out for sure.

PS: Remember a time when no one knew what "font" meant?

Early ones are on the flange, while the later versions are on the tube.

I have probably pulled 50+ 660 housings from junk yard cars and pick ups. I have one on ebay right now. The number on the base seems to be 1968 and early 69. After those dates they all seem to be numbered on top. Most of the cars were full size from the Janesville plant. Earl

OK, but when did the '660 housing with the carb return
spring - tab show up? I see these on restored cars all the
time and I don't think they are correct. Anyone know?

Nuch

This makes sense,as the small blocks I referenced earlier were all pre 1970,and the Big blocks post 1969.
I have never noticed the small vs.large font before.
What size font would this be considered?
