1968 Z-28 what's it worth???? please help
I have a pretty good story about my 1968 Z-28. Back in July of 1984, I sold a VW “baja” and had some cash burning a hole in my pocket. In our local paper there was a 1968 Camaro advertised with a new 400 engine and 4 speed. I called and talked to a guy and he said it wasn’t anything special but it was pretty fast. A friend and I rode down to look in his dads 59 Impala convertible (348 tri power-4spd) and sure enough it was fast. The redneck that owned the car looked like someone out of a ZZ Top video. The car had Z-28 badges on the fenders only but no tach or gauges. We both agreed that it was not a Z because of this. It did have dual piston power disc brakes and a Muncie 4 spd with 12 bolt. I drove the car a few months and went to a local cruise in and met a camaro junkie there who said that it did not have to have these options to be legit. This was 1984 and South Carolina would do a title search on the phone and disclose the previous owners, which they no longer do. I received the name of the first owner, called him and said it was 1 of 3 sons and gave me their ###’s it was the 2nd brother and yes it was a Z-28 bought new @ Central Chevrolet in Columbia SC. I sold the car a few ears later and thought I was the man getting $3500 for the car. Fast forward to about 1995. Wanted to find the car so I ran a few ads in some newspapers to the effect of “previous owner in search of 1968 Z-28 lemans blue w/blue interior.2dys later I got a call telling where it was at. Went to look and the owner told me $12,500 would buy the car. Well like a dummy I walked but have kept in touch with Dennis Osteen (the owner) Today I called him and offered what I think is a very generous offer for the car.. I’m curious what it’s worth. A quick description is as follows: wrong engine-327 that looks correct- m-21 Muncie non matching##- I believe the correct rear but not sure. On a 1-10 I would call it a very nice 8 or very nice driver. The car is very solid no hit car original sheet metal with the exception of patch panels on the drivers side only. The car is not detailed underneath just spray bombed black the interior is very nice original and it does have 15x6 rallies but I don’t think they are correct. Pleas respond with some type range on it’s value. I know you can’t say without looking but hopefully you can give me some idea on it’s value.
