Got them, hope you do not mind, I cleaned them up a bit to compensate for the faded colors and what not in the two older ones. That is one sweet ride, been following the thread when I have time on the PC site. Great story and info, pics are spectacular, bore us with every detail you want, I know I will read it.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For some of the comments earlier the Z was specified for Disc and the L35 and other 396's were drums but could be upgraded to disc. In 67 when you ordered disc brakes there was no option but to get the rally wheels as there were clearance issues with the current steel rims and they did not re-engineer and offer them up for the Camaro for the 67 model year, later they would become an option. Links to the GM letters/announcements are listed below. For the Z the disc brake info is on page 2, the L35 and L78 do not listed as an upgrade for disc as it was not offered in base trim but again could be ordered with them as an option. 67 Z28 Specifications Letter 67 L35 Camaro Follow up Bulletin and Specs 67 L78 Camaro Intro Letter and Specs |

Merle had the Camaro towed from Colorado to Iowa. Iowa is where he is living now. He told the mechanic the car didnt sound right and he wanted it gone thru. The mechanic said Merle told him it was a pace car he bought in Texas while in the miliary.

Merle said he and a friend went to the dealership and the car had just rolled in and was being put on the showroom floor. He inquired and was told initially the car wasn't for sale. Teh salesman advised it was a display car for a new Chevy promo. Merle said he stayed persistent and they ended up charging him an additional fee to buy it. I dont recall what the mechanic said but it was some sort of a special fee he agreed to pay to get the car. That fee was above and beyond the invoice price.

He said Merle also agreed on some sort of contract that he would leave the decalls on the car for a period of time. The mechanic didnt recall for how long. Merle told the mechanic it was a special car and he would never part with it. Merle told the mechanic he was to leave the decals on for twom months but took them off after a month. Thats why te picture with the decalls has to be when the car was NEW.

Merle's familt has confirmed the mechanics story. He was in college and a military officer going thru pilot training when he got the car.

Last point on '67 disc vs. drums:
![]() The car in the foreground has drums, thus the FC wheels and, in this case, P01 wheel covers. The second car has discs and thus the Disc Brake wheels. The SS427 Impala also has discs, as can be clearly seen. Dana Chevrolet, 1967. |
