Exactly, Sam...I'd give my left nut for a real deal AC Cobra...Hemi Cuda 'Vert? Sorry, I don't see the attraction, kinda like the Z28 'Vert...give me a hardtop instead...

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll take a hard top also. But I'll still take the Cuda.
Their were 7 for the US, 2 for Canada and 2 for Europe. 11 in total. Patrick

Another thing I've been thinking about lately is in 30-40 years is the gas availability to run these cars and if there is little gas left will people be willing to pay big bucks for something that can't be driven, especially to a generation in which the majority did not grow up with these cars???...will they eventually become just garage art or will the cool thing be to retrofit an electric or hydrogen engine into them...I hope it doesn't get to that point - electric motors just don't have that spine tingling rumble while they are running.....Either way I'll be in love with these cars till the day I "pass on"

[/ QUOTE ]

The cars of this type caliber don't get driven now, so it likley won't matter.. Gas that is.

They only made 7-71 Hemi Cuda convertibles. How many Cobra's did they make and how many clones are made of them ???

[/ QUOTE ]
A better question would be, Which one would you rather have?

[/ QUOTE ]

That is a matter of preference; I don't think either are worth 5 million dollars. My original point was that if either car was to warrant that much money I think the Cobra or Ferrari is more deserving due to the hand crafted bodies and the racing pedigree they hold. Did they build more Cobras than 'Cuda convertibles? Sure but even the Daytona Cobra coupes, of which they built 6, aren't bringing 5 million and they share the same racing pedigree and a more beautiful aluminum body. Not trying to change anyone's mind here I just would like to know how anyone can justify that kind of money for a musclecar?

I guess some things just can't be explained. Like $150,000,000 for a frame, paint and canvas.

I think Ronnie Sox may have some contention with this...

It would be feasable to "build" a numbers match hemi cuda convertible for that kind of money, so its getting a little weird.
Especially since those cars (cudas) were kind of crappy and lackluster compared to even a regular big block camaro or chevelle.
As was stated earlier by others, the value is in the "idea" of "I have one you don't" inherant to ultra wealthy collectors.
They spend it because they can.
Whats 5 million out of several billion?

Those cars are realistically "worth" probably 250 to 350 thousand though. 5 million is really inflated.
Its kind of like a game of hot potato. At somepoint, someone will be left in the end with a car that no one else is willing to spend the money to get.

I'm not sure you can determine worth with muscle cars. They sell for that much because their desired. Just like many collectibles. Lets face it. Hemi's, ZL1's,Yenkos and Copos have become collectibles. Let me know where I can buy a "realistically" worth 71 Hemi-cuda convertible for 250k-350K. Those days are long gone.

I still take the hard top.

[/ QUOTE ] The Last Daytona Coupe Sold was the Controversial Phil Spector Car and that went to Dr. Fred Simone in Philadelphia for 4 Million Dollars 3 years ago. He's not Selling. Try the Owner of the Utah Jazz! He has 11 Original COBRA's and a GT40 that won at LeMans, and an Original Daytona Coupe with extensive Racing Victories. and to think, Carroll Shelby is still alive! one can only speculate the price spike when he gets his last checkered Flag!

The price spike in the Hemi cars is pretty pronounced. I bet the car doesn't clear at the speculated price, despite its really cool history.

Carlos Monteverde, who lives here in London, sold the White export car (France) in question, plus another Hemi Cuda convertible and one other 70/71 Hemi car for, I believe, $3 million less than a year ago as a package to Bill Weiman (sp?), the guy from AZ, who just had to have the cars. He woke up one day and decided that he didn't want most of his Hemi collection anymore. He also sold his Yenko Chevelle, 70 W-30 Vert and a bunch of cool other stuff. His muscle car collection has gone from teens to low single digits. On the other hand his Ferrari/Maserati collection continues to grow. He broke his leg after shunting in his 250LM ($2-3m) at a vintage race and started doing deals for cars because he was bored. I understand that he might be looking for a very high quality Yenko Camaro. Anybody?
