These "number" parts are indeed expensive but they are getting scarce. Having said that, I remember when it was worth taking a complete letter car (SS,GT,BOSS,HEMI,RT,GS,T/A,Z,...) and part it out. Would not be worth doing today that's for sure!
I'll call you this weekend Jim. Thx.

It may be a matter of supply and demand to some but to others it's just pure greed. That's my take. Rick H. |

The guy is simply selling a very rare component used on hi perf cars. He lists a price and contact info. Why is it that those that are not interested feel the need to make negative comments. This is not what this site is about. If you are not interested...why comment. To call someone greedy because of their or anyone elses asking price is wrong. If your looking to find a real bargain, do some leg work and root and snoot all the old wrecking yards or swap meets. Stop complaining about pricing its his item.

I sold a nice LS6 Chevelle in October of 1974 for $2300. It had the 837 alt, 4557 carb, orig engine, trans, rear, etc...... So, I can't stomach the current prices either.

LETS SEE ,LETS DO THE MATH. 2300 IN 1974 CAR IS WORTH 50 TIMES THAT NOW SO 2300 X 50 IN 2006 =115,000 DOLLARS WHICH IS THE CARS WORTH TODAY. HMMM NOW THAT 837 WAS PROBABLY WORTH 20.00 THEN SO IF WE USE THE SAME METHOD AND DO 20X50 IN TODAYS MARKET THEN THAT SAME 837 IS WORTH 1000.00 DOLLARS WHICH IS NOT FAR FROM HIS ASKING PRICE. LETS TRY A DIFFERNT ONE IF JIM WAS RUNNING FROM THE COPS WITH 2 837'S UNDER HIS ARMS AT A SPEED OF 4 MILES AN HOUR AND THE COPS WERE RUNNING AT 6 MILES AN HOUR THEN HOW MANY YEARS WILL HE SPEND IN JAIL?

When you are building a car that will be worth $150-200K or more when done, don't expect people to give you the parts. That was the beauty of building our '72 Lemans Sport. Any parts would do and we painted it a colour we liked. Big dollar restorations are for the rich and they can afford the $1400 alternators. Look on the positive side. It puts lots of money back into circulation.
