Frank,

It is a real 1111499 and original to the car. That's what the customer wanted to do. And it was probably the biggest challenge for us to bring it back.

The vacuum advance is a new GM piece, #1116163. I stock them here at the shop. If someone wants to step up for the Paragon correct reproductions, they have that option too.

Will get full credit for either in judging.

O.K. That vacuum advance is a GM replacement, it is a service part, that is not correctly numbered original part. You can't tell me that you would not make a deduction for that part if you didn't install it. Also what deduction would be taken for the condition of the distributor housing. I'm just trying to understand the "double standard" that I have personally witnessed.

No double standards Frank, this distributor is a driver condition original that the customer wanted restored if possible. Of course there would be a deduction for the condition of the housing if it were in a restoration type vehicle.

Regarding the numbers, that vacuum advance is a technically correct GM replacement and as long as it's cosmetially correct and plated correctly, full credit will apply. I don't recall that you received any deduction on one of your cars for a vacuum advance unit......have you? I don't think that anyone else received deductions in the "Legends" class for distributor vacuum advances?

I would give the guy that owns that Dist. extra points for going the extra mile for having the ORIGINAL dist restored for his car.

I get a kick out of shows were people frown on cars that have some weather parts on them even though these weathered parts are all original to the car they preside on. I take my 68 Z now and then but I am tired of people pointing out scratches, gouges and other imperfectios in a original car. I suppose I could buy a bunch of pretty parts that have been restamped and show no wear but that is not the way I remember these cars being.
