Gobi Yenko Deuce finds its way to EBaY

My, this thread gotten folks going. Damn Frankie. You wanted a good 15 page discussion on supercars again. I think we got one.

I have different issues to throw my 2 cents in on, but the first being again that the bank did a very poor job representing this car. To avoid all this speculation about what's there, or not, they should have followed some folks advise, and had it independently inspected to verify what components are there, and those not.
Informed bidding can not take place without full disclosure on the car. Now Ed's the only one who knows for sure what's there, and he had to do it on his own dime. It would be great if he shared that with everybody, but I wouldn't blame him if he didn't.
Now comes a question if the hidden VIN nbrs there. Can't find that out with out taking off the heater box. Now this can get pretty sticky. Most likely it's there, but if it's been changed, the bank now has a real issue as they are selling a bogus car, that has no collateral value, and might have a criminal past.
Again, it would have been in the banks best interest, to have done their due dilligence, including hireing someone with knowledge of what they were looking at, to give them a comprehensive report so people could have an informed bid.
Now...There are a couple for kinds of folks who like deuces. Those who feel that cars are for investing, and those who just like the damn things because they're cool.
This cars for the latter group. Those of you who want investment quality cars, just move along, and let the guys who love deuces have their shot at this one. This one isn't a rolling art piece. This is a (presumed) real deal Yenko deuce. One of 25 in GB that needs a good running LT/1, m21 trans, 4.10 gear in a 12 bolt housing cause you're not gonna find a CBW..ever, and a happy owner who loves her for what she is.
And I only know of 1 deuce, that was ever restamped on the blk. To assume that the restoration progression of a deuce is pre determined to go that way is probably an overstatement.
You don't slip much past Marlin, or folks involved with deuces.
Now personally, I'd like to see the bank stop the auction, go back, and do it right. This has been a friggin circus.
In finishing up the rant, some of the cars that have brought very good money were not nbrs matching cars. And that was known. Anyway you look at it, there's only 175 of them.

I just don't understand what the bank did wrong here, I explained above a banks usual approach to selling a repossessed car. It is up to the buyer to do his homework as I already stated. Yes, Ed did his homework and has pics and info, but he is not obligated to share it as he paid for it. With that said, from what little we know about this car, I HIGHLY doubt it is a re-body. I don't know for sure, but I bet the hidden vins are there. There are to many indicators to say otherwise. I said it before and I will say it again, someone has a fair shot at owning a Deuce for once. I agree with you Schonye that the buyer for this car needs to be a car guy and not someone who looks at these cars as strictly an investment. It's anyone's game. Be willing to step up to the plate, due your due diligence, and most of all, don't believe the hype.

Guezz....this is the most excitment I have seen since the new SYC web site format!!

Its a decent car with paper...depending on what you want to do with the car - determines its value to you. Couple more days and this will be all over.....no more popcorn!!

For the record - with the exception of pics, I have shared ALL of the finding from my inspection.

I agree with you Ken - lots of posturing here. I smell a great car for a person who wants to drive it. The banker must not be into recovering full value (like Frank says). Powersnipe anyone?

Lucky for the individual that ends ups with this car that it is even on ebay.

Since I do work for a bank on foreclosed homes, I speak from experience. This is going to recoup $40k of a loan for them.
No big deal. Outta see what they write off sometimes.

Banks do not claim anything on property disclosure forms when they sell a foreclosed homes for two reasons. One, they don't have to and two, they are not going to be held liable for something they have no knowledge. When you go buy a home, you inspect it or pay an inspector to check it out for you, same goes here.
BTW, they write off houses for more than this if it is going to be a problem for them to get rid of. They just wrote off a $60k loan on a home that had a noted lead base paint problem with the Ohio Dept of Health.

Wish I had the money to buy, but first I'd go inspect it.

It will be a very exciting final 2 minutes to watch. The drivetrain may be gone but let's face it.......the basic car is still really just a &quot;350 Nova&quot;. It does not have the allure or pricing structure of a &quot;1969 427 Camaro&quot;. That's the reality of it. A date-coded 1970 4-Bolt 350 CID Block(decked) puts you in business, a 1970 Nova Muncie or a freshly stamped over-the-counter unit wouldn't be too hard to score. The &quot;CBW&quot; 12 Bolt is a problem and a VERY difficult item to acquire but I do know of at least one Deuce that has had a &quot;CBI&quot; 2.73 12-Bolt re-stamped into a &quot;W&quot;. Heck, it would be worthwhile to even &quot;re-tube&quot; the passenger side axle tube with the correct date and code. The famous E-Bay '63 SD421 Tempest just had an ENTIRE front clip fabricated from aluminum sheet, so an axle tube should certainly be do-able on this Deuce. Now fortunately, Chevrolet made a fairly decent number of LT-1's in Corvettes and Z-28's so engine components wouldn't be terribly hard to find. They're out there. Now what we do have here is a REAL 1970 Yenko Deuce with vintage photos, a VIN # that is on &quot;the list&quot;, and an ORIGINAL Window Sticker from a great dealer in Chi-town that sponsored John Greenwood's wild &quot;Spirit&quot; Corvettes and even sold a '63 Z-11 Impala back in 1963. Eddie M. should be commended and thanked for paying for and going through the hassle of having somebody inspect this car in person and then sharing the info with everyone for free. My hats tipped to 'ya for that selfless deed and if you go after this car tomorrow, I really hope you get it. Anybody else that thinks the bank didn't do enough to represent the car accurately should just pass on this car if it makes you that uncomfortable and just wait for the next project one to pop up for sale on the 'Bay.....but you may have a VERY LONG wait! This car is the LAST of the great High Horsepower REAL Yenko Supercars of the '67-'70 time frame (I won't even acknowledge Stinger Vegas and Turbo Z's) and an opportunity to step into one, possibly reasonable, doesn't come around very often.
