I think this is because the front clips were painted separately from the body and therefore the formulas and painter's hand varied a little bit between the different items.

My car came exactly as you've noticed Steve. In some pictures it's really quite evident.
This is a great thread. I have some areas that I'll take pictures of soon for all you original "porn" addicts!! It's amazing what we accepted as "quality" back then.
