The tag was obviously sprayed white after the firewall blackout was applied, which means it was either painted as it left the Fisher Paint shop, or at some later point in the assembly process. Not every car had their tag painted so it can't be for better visibility, unless some tags were magically easier to read than others. It may even have been done by GM as it came thru the wall from Fisher to flag the car for some reason. No one really looked at the tag, since there was paperwork similar to GMs body broadcast sheet hanging off the firewall with Fishers version of equipment codes on it

Bob,

Would that 67 RS/SS Convertible with the white tag be a pace car?

We're talking about this exact same topic the last few weeks over at www.camaropacecars.com

I've seen original paint 67's with white tags and without white tags.
It was obviously done to indicate something. Seems strange if it was to highlight the tag cause the tag info was also on the UOIT. Also interesting cause there were other ways in the system to flag things and the blackout paint was specifically there by Marketing request to cover assembly plant markings. I've never observed a pattern to it, but the sample size is small since most firewalls have been repainted over the years. Never seen it on a 68 or 69.

I'd say that it was for Fisher since the tag and it's info was for Fisher (and it would seem strange for Chevy to be marking a Fisher item). Since it was done after firewall blackout, that indicates that it probably was for the Trim Shop Operations in Fisher.
