Glenn, I don't know what planet you're form, but I hope they don't beam you up any time soon. Not only the '62 convt with Merv Griffin, BUT you may have produced the ONLY proof that Chevy built a '61 Super Sport Impala Sport Sedan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (4dr, hardtop)!!!!!!!!

I noticed that, too, but thought "nah, it can't be" The hubcaps could be easily added but it sure does look like the 61 'SS' logo forward of the Impala script on the rear quarter. The picture wasn't quite clear enough to me to be positive that's what it was though.

Glenn, I don't know where in the world you're getting all these pictures, but I hope it's an endless supply

Bill,
Also note the narrow band white walls and black wheels. Those tires only came on the Super Sport in '61.

According to the literature, the SS option was available on all Impala body styles except wagons.

Probably not as much as a 2-dr. I think the "two too many doors rule" would still apply.

It is an interesting photo for sure. I wonder where it was taken and the purpose for the 2 gentlemen posing next to their cars. Maybe they were traveling on vacation together?

Verne

PS: I blew the photo up and I believe I can see the column mounted shifter handle in Park, so that would mean it's the 305hp 348 (the only engine available in the SS with a P/G trans)

Vern, it looks like they're in front of the Colony Hotel in the heart of South Beach, Miami. Why they're posing is anyone's guess.

Posing and South Beach go hand-in-hand (pun intended ), don't they?
