My best friend growing up--his parents owned one of the first '55 T-birds, bought new at Cortese Ford in Richmond, CA. He couldn't remember why the headlight rings were chrome but he said it came that way.

A friend who used to do Thunderbird restorations told me (so take it for what it's worth) that the first 100 cars off the line had those chome headlight rings, and it essentially triples their value.

I do remember him telling me that the car was the first '55 T-bird in Northern California.

Lower it about two inches and you'd have one cool Caddie.

California, not PA. Looking east along old State Highway 4, or possibly Willow Pass Road. White sign on right shows straight ahead for Stockton, left for Pittsburgh's central busniess district and right for Concord via old Kirker Pass Road. (East Bay Area, 1/3 of the way from SF to Sacramento.)
