If you go to '69 Chevelle RPO by Model (Chevellestuff.com) you will see the breakdown of engines ordered. Only SS cars got the 396 engine, therefore

:

L35 = 59.7K total ordered
L34 = 17.3K
L78 = 9.4K

for a grand total of ~86.4K Chevelle SS!
