[b]Thanks to Marty Schorr for the straight scoop on Oldham's Camaro:
"Oldham's Camaro was not a ZL-1, it was a Phase III (steel) 427 auto trans SS427 Camaro and it was stolen shortly after it was built for him. It was the car I used for the WANTED poster advt. It was triple-black and ran like a rocket! " Many thanks, Marty

[b] For anyone unfamiliar, this is the WANTED poster advertisement Marty was referring to - Notice the car has stripes in this photo

...I have wondered if that was really Joe's car...the car in the "WANTED" ad has different rims (which could easily be changed) and a white hockey stripe...all the other pics of Joe's car did not have that side stripe.

There are pictures of J O’s black Motion Camaro with 3 different sets of wheels on it. At first, I thought there may have been another black 69 Motion Camaro that may have had ZL1 power but would think that it would have been covered in Cars mag or another mag of the day.
Another interesting bit on this car. In J O’s book, he states that he asked for the orange Ram Air Firebird after his Motion Camaro was stolen but on page 67 you can see what looks like a black Motion Camaro in the stage lane behind the orange Firebird. Again indicating a possible second black 69 Motion Camaro. They may all be the same car and the articles could be incorrect. A minor error but makes it difficult to track and document the cars. Not saying anything negative about J O as I think he is a great writer and have enjoyed his articles and books. |
