John, Thanks for helping me and Robin rearrange our car storage building. It was a lot of work, but it turned out great and we enjoyed your company.
We are proud to have your white Douglass Yenko in our collection and hope the orange 4 speed Superbird brings you as much enjoyment as it did to us. I have met the best car people thru this Yenko SuperCar Club site. Most of you have been a class act and have made me feel right at home;although I don't post very often, I do check the site every single day.
I would like to invite any members traveling through the desolate Northeast corner of Colorado to give me a call and we'll give you and your friends a tour.

P.S. Thanks Colin for the Mr. Norm's Daytona and Boss 302.
Thanks Rich P. and Charlie L. for all your help!

I guess Wayne and Robin are the only Yenko Collectors to have one of every (found) Color 1969 Yenko* Camaro offered for sale, to the public.

Congrats!

Congrats John,

For those of you that may be interested...this is not John`s first "Wing Car". John do you have any pictures you can post of your original Super Bird....send them either to Darren or I and we`ll post them for you.

Dan.

Dans right I had a green wing car back around 1986. I was at a party and heard someone talking how there was a Superbird sitting unincorrporated Melrose Park in a guys backyard and had been there for years. That was only five minutes away from wher I lived. The next morning I got up early and went looking for this Superbird, I drove around for hours and couldnt find it. I drove around one last time and finally seen a couple of 4X8 sheets of plywood laying up against a car I got out and there it was. It was pretty disappointing no doors, no wing, intake and carb missing. The car was pretty rotted from sitting there so long.
I go and ring his door bell and he answers and I asked if it was for sale he said he bought it brand new and wasnt selling it. I was curious and asked him what happened to it and he said he used to live behind East Leyden High school and when he went on vacation one year the high school kids stripped the car and he never fixed it.
About six months later I get a call from the guy and said he wanted to buy a new Mustang and wanted to sell it we came up with a price and I dug it out of the mud and brought it home.
I went back to the area the car was stripped at and started asking around if anybody knew anything about what happened to the parts. I really was interested in getting the wing back this one guy said he knew who took the stuff and told me where he lived. He said he had put the doors on a I think it was a GTX and sold the car but the guy who bought the GTX was stripping it for parts. I went to the guys house and the doors were there I even brought the key with me and it locked and unlocked the doors so I bought the doors. The wing was long gone but even back then I found one and had to pay 1800.00 for it. The doors didnt have a spot of rust on them that bird was really a rust free car before being stripped. By the time I sat down and fiqured what it would cost to fix it wasnt worth it so I put it in Hemmings and sold it for a pretty good profit. I hear the car went to Arizona and was restored 2 years ago in a body shop back in Brookfield Il only about 10 miles away from where I found it.
