Joe, the pictures are dated 1972.
The car in that polaroid had those "hockey stripe" stripes. I dont think they are factory, though for a couple of reasons I have spoken to three original owners of Jack Douglass Yenkos. Here is what I know from first hand accounts. 1)Nick M. says that when he bought his/my Yenko chevelle that day, there were also 2 yellow Yenko 427 Camaros on the lot. Both Camaros did NOT have Yenko stripes. He is positive. They did have Yenko emblems and Yenko window stickers. though. 2)Nicks friend bought one of them that day. That is the car that Richard M. now owns and it is currently sporting Yenko stripes which is incorrect for that car.(to each his own). 3)Dwayne Tomley, (the one in those polaroids) took delivery of his JD Yenko Camaro brand new in the summer of 69. It had those funky hockey stripes and a rear Yenko crest. It did NOT have syc on the headrests though. My car is an 05D car and Dwayne bought his in the summer of 69 and Nick and his friend bought them in 11/69. My camaro could be the one dwayne bought, or it could be the one nick saw(and test drove)or it could be another one. I have no idea at this point. My Vin is one digit away from Richard M. car so I "think" that they may have been the 2 yellow ones on the lot that day on 11/69....i just don't know.(dwayne does not have any paperwork, so he does not know his vin. I decided to restore my car as it came from the factory, with its x11 pin stripe. I like the clean look better and I have always liked ZL1 number 3, so that is why I did that. A couple of chitown members swear my car came with the Yenko stripes, Mike G included, but for now, my decals just sit in the trunk, as I like the cleaner look better. Interestingly enough, on the repair order from 89 (see last attachment) one of the quote lines reads"remove and re-apply decals)....maybe bruce can grap it off of my post, and recrop it correctly. I will say that Mike G. and John. P, are really the resident experts on all things Jack Douglass. ![]() |
