Do you think that you may be able to dye the carpet using Rit dye?
Being blue the light spots look like sunfade... On black the carpet begins to look tan or grey... I have dyed original carpets and the carpet on the door panel bottoms as well... It may be worth a shot trying it on a hidden place. You may be surprised.
