When Mark IV's Big Blocks initially came out they were often called semi-hemi due to the combusion chamber shape.

Really
![]() ![]() I see the road sign for Alt. 19 at the intersection in the background. I remember that Alt. 19 was (or perhaps still is?) the main north - south road through the Gulf Coast towns of Tarpon Springs, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg. My grandparents lived just south of Tarpon Springs back in the 60's, but I don't recall any drag strips in the vicinity.....they may have been farther inland.

Those gas prices bring back some great memories. I was driving a burgundy '63 Impala SS 'vert in high school. 327/glide. Could cruise the ville all evening for a few bucks, with cash enough left over for a burger before heading to the house. Drove that car for years, and never computed the mileage it got... never cared.
A simpler time... JB |
