Thanks. You of all people know what it takes to do one of these cars. The parts are chicken lips.

The proof in the quality of the resto is in the details. On our two cars we have dated coded alternators, voltage regulators, correct date coded stage 1 distributors, carburetors, etc. They even have the correct date coded water pumps rebuilt from cores.

I sometimes see people rely on points grades on a 400 point max concours rules system for Buicks. I think that most do not realize that the current Buick Concours Rules do not require say a 70 stage 1 to have even a stage 1 engine or a stage 1 trans or stage 1 carb or stage 1 distributor ect. You can score 400 points with the engine from another car that is not even a stage 1! It is not a judged criteria. All that you need is a 70 455 from say a station wagon.

The break point between gold and silver, as I recall, is 485. So, for example, if you have the incorrect reproduction (nonthin) door handles you lose a point. So if you have none of the other important drivetrain parts listed above you still score 399 out of 400 and are classified as gold. And you can have 14 or 15 defficiencies like the incorrect handles plus not have any of the critcal drive train parts and still be judged as meeting the gold standards. This is not to say that the car is still not a great looking car but it illustrates not all restos are equal. And sure you can find something to talk about on any resto if you look hard enough.
