I sold one in 06 at Barrett, at the time it was the highest price ever paid for a amx. Sold for 56,000 plus comissions. It was sold again this past summer by R&M and only brought in the 30's. I got mine from 2 guys who are very big in the AMX world, they spent many years gathering nos parts. I think there cool cars but you will spend a fortune buying parts, buy one done and documented and youll save money...

With all the cloning of Chevelles to SS cars, and Cutlasses to 442's etc, has anyone cloned a Javelin to an AMX?

That would be difficult to do, although they do share several sheetmetal pieces; doors, fenders, deck lid, bumpers, hoods,(although a different exterior sheet metal design),windshield glass. The AMX is 12 inches shorter in wheelbase than the Javelin. They do not share quarter panels, grilles, window glass, roof line. Most think that the AMX was a shortened version of the Javelin, since the Javelin debuted in Sept '67 as a normal '68 model entry, and the AMX debuted in Feb '68 as a late entry. On the contrary the AMX was designed and conceived back in 1965 and a lengthened version was made, that debuted as the Javelin, since a four seat layout was more conducive to a greater number of buyers and it was designed to compete in the pony car segment of the market. The AMX was designed and conceived to be a draw to the younger buyers and AMC knew full well that there was a limited market for a two place vehicle in the market, but wanted to draw the youth market into their showrooms, where the salesmen could direct them to the more practical Javelin models. First year 1968 sales were 6,725 for the AMX and 56,711 for the Javelin.

Hense the tongue in cheek comment. I did own a 69 AMX a few years ago and I could see the major differences. Thanks for the additional info.

Beautiful car, the interior looks great. Looks like the only thing it needs inside is the correct rim-blow steering wheel.

A very nice shadow mask car! I also had a Big Bad Green '70 with shadow mask paint scheme. It was featured in Popular Cars magazine in 1987. What Kevin's car needs is the factory rally pak instrumentation option, I had that as well. It is very rare with an oil/amp and vacum gauge set up in the middle of the dash causing the AMX lettering to be moved farther to the glove box door. This option really completes the instrumentation for the cars.
