Hi Jeff:
I would be shocked if that number of 16 is correct especially if you factor Canada in.There was a few of them up here back in the day and two I have seen just in my local area in the last two years, both 454's. I would have the producion numbers checked if he is selling it as rare.It may be but worth checking further. |

They only came with Hydra lifters.
That price sounds realistic to one that was for sale here last fall, needing a resto also, that got $7200.00. ATTN:Bill Rose..these doors will fit your 69 Elco as well. |

[/ QUOTE ] I spoke to my GM mechanic friend who worked at the dealership in the late 60's and through out the 70's, 80's, 90's, dam he is still there. He remembered these trucks and said he is only 100% sure on one original 454 coming through this way and most of the ones we seen back then were 350's and 402's with 454's out of chevelles etc.The two we are still seeing around now in the summer months he knows were originally a 350 and the other a 402 when new.Might both be 454 now but not supplied by GM that way. I never thought they would clone these but looks like they have.So yes a 454 original is very rare. My apologies Joe |

one of my high school buddies neighbor was a salesman at Byers GMC truck dealership in columbus. he had a sprint as a demo, i think it was a 454 auto?(it was a big block) it was the first and maybe the only one i have ever seen in person. he also had a sweet 69 GTX 4 speed, which would wet your pants.

They are rare, but I don't know exactly how rare. I am not even sure I've ever seen a '71 454 Sprint. I know I viewed a '72 one time, but not a '71.
Seeing Sprint with any engine configuration is rare enough, but one with the 454 engine is near unheard of. I would say that his price is in-line. |

I think they made around 250 or so, but the number of 454s is not known.

If it's running and driving, that's sounds like a good price. A non-running, but original numbers and rusty '71 SS454 ZL2 TH400 ElCo recently sold in my area for $2500.
Good luck, BCD. |
