One of the many fires in the Valencia area is in Stevenson Ranch near Magic Mountain and it appears to be heading over the hill to Porter Ranch, that's where we live. The packing has started and the cars are backed in the driveway. I told my wife our daughter can drive my car and leave hers behind, I'm taking the '69 if we get the order to evacuate. Last time there was a fire this size we had a pumper in the street all night watching over us.

I really hope Mark is OK. He's had no power, no cell service and the fire was headed straight for his home according to news reports.

Hi Guys,
Made it through this one, fire got to within a couple hundred yards but those air crews did an amazing job-saved dozens of homes in my area.

All animals accounted for, still no power or phone since sunday morn but at least I have a home which unfortunately some people down the hill from me can't say.

Chad-you know where I keep the hot rods at,it's the earthquakes that will get you there!

update on fires burning in socal and san diego

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

just got done watching a news conference with gov schwarzteneger and other officials right now these are some of the figures of acreage and houses destroyed since sunday

total acreage burned as of early this morning with all the fires from socal to san diego and is expected to continue to climb :

426,000 acres

total structures burned down/destroyed :

1500 houses

570 out buildings and commercial building

there's still alot of fires burning up in the big bear moutain resort with only 10 percent containment

san diego is really getting hit hard with a couple new fires breaking out in camp pendleton "camp horno" . the large fire that has been burning out of control now is threatening the small moutain community of julian and also his heading towards anza borrego park

the winds even though the santa ana's have died down are still strong and unpredictable

Beautiful animal. I'd be packed and gone! (easy for me to say.)

I heard from my cousin in Rancho Palos Verdes this morning. He said they're fairly comfortable at present, but do have a lot of smoke and ash falling around them. Bad situation.

Yikes, after just watching extensive coverage on these fires, my heart goes out to all the residents of the effected areas. There was a news reporter standing at the scene of his home of 20 years burning to the ground. They also showed several garages of "classic" cars, one having just been completed a few days ago, all burnt to a crisp. I did notice that some vehicles left out away from the house were spared.
Don't wait, get out now.

One newsman covered the history of the area known as Malibu and said that's where Chevrolet got the name.
I did not know that.
