I remember going to SC at Maple Grove in the 80's. It was packed! That picture is how I remember it. I haven't been to SC at the Grove in at least 10 years now.

yeah, Indy SC was the highlight of the year. I remember Rusty Symms' ZL1 being there. You had to take a number and stand in line to look at it. 409's racing everywhere, was there one year with the car on the concourse... hotter than he**, but it was the place to be. The year all the Zl1's were featured was cool too. Haven't been to a SC in several years. Last one was in Columbus a few years ago, probably spent maybe a hour there then headed to McDorman's show going on at the same time. It's a shame the SC's went away and we don't have anything on the level of the Mopar Nat's but then again last time I was there it looked like it was down too. It seemed like when Gustin took over the SC's the emphasis was on being a bracket race and it started sinking like a rock. Doug Marion ran a great show. Also, having so many diluted it also. I just visited an old friend today who always went to Indy with us and we were talking about the good old days. Sorry for the hijack.

You want to know why shows are not like that anyomore...it's because people are so damned worried about what these cars "bring" instead of going out and enjoying them. All these date codes, numbers matching, correct parts b.s. has gotten way out of hand.
I enjoy this site and it has alot of useful informnation on it, but from some of the responses and replies I see on here, it looks like money is the key for enjoyment. Did you not have more fun with your cars when you dorve them around and did not care if everything was correct, or did not have to nitpick everything about someone elses car? Like I said, alot of you guys definately know what it is you are talking about, but I am one that does not care about all this correctness b.s. I just like to get out and have fun and not worry if my car gets dirty or has a wrong date code on a radiator hose. I fully expect to hear some negative comments about some of what I said, so feel free to unleash. |

You might be surprised that a bunch of overly anal folks actually drive, enjoy and race their numbers matching, date code correct, high value SuperCars! I think the reason why you don't see the numbers at a SC event is bec/ the organizers don't really care about the cars - they care about their promotors, sponsors, vendors, etc... = $$$$$. They have crapped on many a facet of the car hobby, yet increase their prices every year - no thanks! I'll save my $$ and use it towards gas costs to get to the SCR ![]()
