They used it for crash testing...the white Mope would pull a car with a cadaver in it, get it up to speed, then WHAM! Pick through the pieces...

I belive that the Road Runner was used by the EPA to test emmisions from jet aircraft They would line it up and after the jet would start its roll they would chase it with testing equipment in the car
