I'll try to explain the Marc Rich pardon if you can explain the Nixon pardon. Scooter Libby too while you're at it. Ollie North. John Poindexter. (See: quid pro quo)

Ken, one thing we can all agree on is that politics is very sleazy when the sheets are pulled back and we see whom is in bed with whom. What's the old saying? "There are two things you don’t want to see being made—sausage and legislation." Presidential pardons fall under the legislation category but they often smell of maggot-infested sausage.

Oh, and guess who Marc Rich's defense lawyer was from 1985 until 2000? Scooter Libby.

Just explain Marc Rich.........I think that the Clinton's and their behind the scene dealings will become a "Focal" point if "Billary" makes it (And I hope she doe's) to keep the "Rock Star" in school a little longer till he gathers enough Intelligence for his Diploma....

My $.02

Get "Rid" of them "ALL"

Okay Ken. First, look at this photo:

That's Marc Rich's ex-wife Denise. Not a bad looking lady if I do say so myself. Let's go back to 1999-2000: Her incredibly wealthy husband has been in exile overseas avoiding a trial over tax evasion, I think. (His lawyer, Scooter Libby, could not get the charges dropped.) Denise, like most women, thinks Bill Clinton is an exciting and powerful man (women think power is sexy) and she knows damn-well that Bill Clinton is a 10th-degree horn dog. She wants her ex to come back to the U.S. and she probably wants his assets released from government control (ex-wife + frozen assets = desperate measures). Okay, so she befriends President Horndog, probably wearing a similarly-revealing dress as we see above, and Bill's salivary glands (and other glands) go wild. They begin having clandestine meetings and pretty soon her tongue is in Bill's ear and one of her hands is you-know-where. BINGO! "Yes, yes, YESSS!!! I will PARDON YOUR HUSBAND!!!! JUST KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!!"

Sorry, but as I said, power politics is sometimes a messy process when viewed too closely.

Okay, so Bill's on his way out in January 2001 and he does what all presidents do: he pardons his friends and the friends of his powerful friends. He also pardons anyone who might have been indicted and/or convicted of a crime during his administration, basically to shut them up and stop their prosecution cases from becoming messy public spectacles. In Marc Rich's case, it was probably the promise of a huge financial donation to Clinton's library construction fund and to the DNC. Oh, and that fun thing Denise did with her tongue when they were together. (Quid pro quo.) Denise Rich, as with so many women who got all tangled up with Mr. Horndog, knew how to get to Bill. I'm not defending him, I'm just pointing out how women knew how to get things from Bill. (Hurts go good!)

Okay, that's my guess at what was at play (at "play") with Clinton's pardon of Marc Rich. By the way, even Democrats were plugging their noses at the stench stirred up by the Rich pardon so the disgust was bi-partisan.

Okay, now please explain why President Nixon was pardoned by President Ford. Here's my guess: "Hey Gerry, I'll make you VP and then I'll resign if you then pardon me once you are president. Deal?" "Yes Mr. President, you have a deal." Ford knew he could never be elected on his own so he smartly jumped at the chance to become president through Nixon's resignation. Purely political opportunism. Naturally, they all denied the quid pro quo (Al Haig was the go-between, by the way) because the truth would have caused a national outrage. Nixon skipped town free from any further prosecution and Gerry Ford got to be president for two years.

You forgot Beebee Rebozo, and Robert Vesco. I was going to mention Scooter Liby, and of course Jack Abramhoff, who will be pardoned. And lets no forget all the patronage jobs fostered by Haliburton, and KBR. Out sourcing ain't no way to run a war.
Most folks don't remember who Marc Rich is, or really care.
He was a sleeze bag, and I think the above explaination is just about right on. But you can get over it, and move on. Marc Rich ain't gonna torpedo ole Hill. The fights gonna be for the independents. They'll remember the estemed senator from Idaho before they get their panties in a wad about Marc Rich.
I also agree about Fred Thompsen.I think you GOP gents should feel very good with him gettin in. Edwards might stand a chance with him, but Fred's smooth. He's got "the Regan" down, and improving. A Republican like Fred might be a healthy thing with a Democratic controlled congress, and senate. No one party should hold all three branches.
Now as a 35 year member of the UAW, I'd like to wish you all a happy labor day.
And to those who complain about the high cost of union labor, go ahead, hire some illegals, buy your kids toys from China, send some more jobs across the pond.
But God help you when we need steel workworkers, welders, tool, and die makers pattermakers, and all those folks who might help us if the $hit hits the fan, and we gotta fight a big one, cause we can hardly find enough people qualifyed to build armored humvee doors at the RI arsenal. And Wilma, if Jimmy Hoffa was alive there wouldn't be any Mexican truckers crossin the border in one piece.
