Holy Crap

I was supposed to be there Saturday afternoon thru today but something came up and we bailed on the trip.

Like a lot of people have said the cars can be fixed. Just hope everyone came out safe and sound.

I'll bet that was the weather vein that was touching from Springfield Il.,all the way to Detroit Friday.
Chicago was predicted to get it Friday, after the 80 mph monsoon that swept through here Thursday, but it disapaited by us and picked up steam to the southeast, all while making a beeline for the northeast.
Fingers crossed for the fantastic plastic contingent.

I was there all of yesterday afternoon and just came home. The temp in the Town of Carlisle hit 102 degrees, walking on that asphalt was like being in a frying pan. Storm hit after I got to the hotel. Some serious rain and lightning. Hope there are no bad injuries. Nothing on the news this morning regarding the storm.

I was going to take my older daughter to the fairgrounds this
weekend, but local events conspired against us. I would
have hated to see this destruction in person. I hope everyone
is OK. Yes, cars can be repaired, but something like this
would certainly take the fun out of it for me. Wonder if
the event planners are going to raise the bar ( no pun intended )
on tent construction/erecting requirements?

Seeing that huge tent pole and piece of rebar on the roof of
that Vette gave me a sick feeling deep down inside.

Nuch

Tenting like that is only good to about 40-45 miles per hour staked like that...if you combine it with weighted water barrels...it offers a bit more protection..but it's still designed to be a temporary structure.

I have seen 7 foot stakes pulled out of the ground at Lake Pleasant here in AZ during a microburst...and the stakes were flying around just waiting to hit something or someone...

We left yesterday (Sat) around 4 and other than being extremely hot, the weather was fine. As we drove home, I remember looking in the rearview mirrow and it was black as can be and saying to Tom, "wow, look behind us".

Lance posted on the Corvette Forum that the rumors of a death are unfounded, but there were injuries and lots of damage and one gentleman was in his Corvette when a tree came down on it causing serious injury.

My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone affected by this unfortunate situation.

This is real bad news. I have been at GM Carlisle more than once when a freak storm has overtaken the fairgrounds. Even this year at Ford, a freaky storm hit. I have had a car damaged by a tent years ago by a wind gust. You just never know...BKH
