Sounds like the Chrome plating is already getting a little thin. I've used the Eagle 1 Chrome Wheel cleaner and some 0000 Steel Wool with pretty good results. The 0000 isn't that agressive and doesn't seem to eat through the chrome like a scotch-brite or the more coarse steel wool. Just be sure to rinse it thoroughly with clear water pretty quickly.
