Default Re: Need a TH 400 guru...

What a difference one part can make I changed the governor tonite...installed a vintage NOS hi-perf unit from an L78 setup..and WOW..!! The gov. that was in there had big weights and very tight springs...the hi-perf unit was "loose"...this simple correction made a huge difference. It now kicks down at highway speed(55mph)and holds until 6,000rpm's and then bang...the tries chirp and your in drive. Gonna do a little more tweaking with the vacuum modulator to see how adjustments impact the shift points...but it is real close to being on the money. Next step is a little better converter(3,000 from ATI) and a deep sump pan and trans temp gauge...after 3 years of messing around this car is starting to really be fun...by the way: we recently had the Holley carb and distibutor for this car reworked by Eric Jackson...first rate job as always Thanks for all the input...

ps: if you are looking at governers, the hi-perf ones I have are stamped with the numbers 23 on the top.
