Paul,
I've never found a "carbon". I don't think any found their way into a car. The various assembly stations around the line received their own "original" on a teletype machine. Some of those originals were attached to subassemblies that made it into the car, like seats, side upolstery, instrument clusters, etc. When (if) a sheet was dropped where it wouldn't be seen when the car was assembled, it just got left there. The body of the car was a rolling trash can for the guys on the line. I think it's an original that's just succumbed to the tar paper and carpet backing, with a little dampness thrown in. I can't tell you how many original buildsheets I've found in a car with a VIN sequence for the previous car or next car on the line. Verne |

Verne,
I have to try to get some more info off of it. It's definitely carbon paper and the paper/clean side was against the padding. There is no tar paper used under the carpet, just jute padding. The only tar type pad is under the back seat. The floors and padding are very clean. Other pieces of paper found and the carpet date tag look great also. When I hold it up to light I'm seeing a negative, black background and white writing. I'm checking with a 'Vair source also who has done a bunch of research. Hopefully something more will be visible on this. Thanks, Paul |

Good luck Paul. That's a First. I've never found any carbon in any '64. Is the car a Corvair? I should have noticed it was Norwood. There were no Norwood full size cars in '64. That explains the missing tar paper and carbon, I guess.

Verne,
This is from my '64 Nova. A while ago I was talking/working with a few people (mainly 'Vair guys) about build codes between different plants and between different cars built at the same plant. -Trying to combine known info of different models from the same plant to help fill in some blanks for both sides. Maybe they'll have some background info. Paul |

Paul, If only your search was for Full Size '64 data, I'd be able to help pull everything together for you. But many of the codes were shared between body lines.
One of my best and closest buddies has a beautiful original '64 SS that he has ungraded "some". It's a 4bbl (220) 283, and it runs like the wind. One tickle of the throttle and it gets your attention and says, "ok,let's GO". Verne ![]() |

ooh, nice car he has there. Saddle Tan SS with tinted windows.
What color is the interior (Saddle, Fawn, Black..)? It's an original 283 with a Powerglide? Paul |

Paul,
The car is Desert Beige with a saddle interior. Originally a 2bbl 283 P/G. I fixed him up with a correct 4bbl for 220hp, and he installed a 200R. The interior is the original. (except for the stereo hidden in the tissue dispenser) ![]() |
