Whats wrong with a 60 over 396 ?

Nothing if the block was subjected to a sonic test prior to boring. Early 396's were not consistant with respect to their bores being centered and have to be checked very closely prior to boring. Some would take a 125 overbore where others would destroy themselves if pushed even with a 60 overbore.I have seen a few pistons in the lifter galley and water jackets over the years.
Maybe I am old school but I have not had great luck with bored 396's. Rather than a 408 or what ever it is I would start with a standard 427, unless it is an original motor for a car.Just one mans opinion.
