I think that if you are making negative generalizations about people involved in a particular activity/occupation then you can expect many of them to be offended by your statement.

Don’t get me wrong there are some very respectable brokers out there, but most are in it for the money not the hobby.

Doesn't sound particularly negative to me. Most guys are in it for the money but it seems that when someone says so people get offended.

Innocent question: Is there anyone out there who brokers cars for free--to anyone, not just a select group of friends?

There are potentially "offensive" things said on this forum which get priased high and low by everybody because of who said it. But if someone who isn't a player says it then the bickering starts.

Instead of being "offended" why not just ignore it and move on? The Japanese have a saying that you can kill something with silence.

I brokered several sales for free. Both parts and supercars. IMO...Some of the bigger collectors need a middle man due to the seller often finding out who they are and increasing the price accordingly.

Never lost any sleep over any of it.

Ditto that! I've made many long term friends though! This site does a pretty good job of dumping the bottom-feeder brokers - they have their own site

mchriscad's statement was making a comparison, noting that some brokers are respectable, but most are in it for the money. Here's the implication of what was stated:

Some brokers: respectable (stated)
Most brokers: not respectable (implied)

Some brokers: not in it for the money (implied)
Most brokers: in it for the money (stated)

I don't think this is a case of reading too much into something. And obviously being seen as not respectable is negative.

For the record: I am not a broker.

Some Buyers= serious Most buyers=time waster picture and info collectors I figured id stand up for the sellers out there that always seem to take heat for selling, while buyers get off scott free while wasting sellers and middlemens time almost as if its a hobby just to get someone to send them a photo and a pic of thier trim tag

The KING is a 100% right I have been buying and selling corvettes and musclecars for 35 years if I had a $1.00 for all the survey takers and number chasers I could buy all the KINGS parts and still have money left over for a signed big block valve cover by the KING himself.

Since this car is devoted to some of the rarest muscle out there, and therefore some of the most expensive, I am definately in the minority here. But, I am not an experienced nor wealthy collector. I am sure many of you are fairly wealthy, so maybe spending high five or six figure coin on a luxury item isn't that much of a worry. But speaking for the working man, I can tell you that if I had the means to buy a 100K-200K dollar car, I would want to know that I had researched my purchase as much as humanly possible. I am also sure that many of you would would consider me a tire kicker or info collector. But unless you inherited it, you didn't come to a position financial prosperity by blindly throwing money at your major purchases. I think just about everyone here is a class act and you have all been very helpful to a young guy breaking in to the hobby, but take it easy on the tire kickers of the world.

Oh, and my two cents, No one thinks very highly of dealers or brokers. But personally, I see nothing wrong with making money.

The Issue is this. When someone is a middleman for the seller he is paid for his services, and some buyers have a problem with paying "two" people for the car and dont like that hes involved. But when a buyer hires a middleman to inspect a car or find a car for him, that person also makes a profit, yet hes looked upon as being helpful and not unethical .. why the double standard???????
