270's were stopped in Oct 68 when the 512 block was introudced. This block is dated I 8 8 For Sept 8, 1968

Kinda hard to see but is that Tonawanda date March 20...built almost 6-1/2 months after casting?.
Well seasoned on purpose or the old first stocked, bottom of the pile and later out story!?.

Not to change the subject but, my old Gibb 427 car had a 270 block in it. I never even thought about it being the org. transplanted motor. The reason was I knew Ray Morrison car had a different # block so that's what I bought. The block I had was two days off from Ray's block. Heck maybe that motor was the org???

The bare 321 block and the {270 motor that was in the car} was sold to Kevin. The day I sorted parts it was earmarked to go with the car.

Steve... or Brian...
CRG is doing a research project on original 68 RS Grilles and they are looking for cars built in the time period your new purchase was built... I am sure they would greatly appreciate any info you would or could provide... they are interested in the cars with the silver bar grilles which yours appears to be...
there apparently was a mid year change... here is the link... it is long but worth the read if you have an interest in the change...
