Yeah, 80 on Wed and played 15 holes of golf after work. Today, 28 degrees and about 4-5" of sleet so far. I've never seen us get this much straight sleet. And of course I drove the 2000 SS into work thinking it would change to rain. They let us leave early at 2:30 and I was surprised that the SS did pretty good on the drive home. The 275/40/17 tires weren't as bad as I thought they would be. My driveway was the biggest hurdle and I could only make it halfway up. We're already going on 13 hours straight of sleet!

A few inches here this morning too...hopefully Buffalo/Niagra didn't get it too bad as I'm heading to the Buffalo airport tomorrow to pick up my kids..
To avoid the new Passport rules, I sent them out of Buffalo last weekend to spend the school break at their Mom's in California...all smooth so far but I won't feel good until they're back home safe and sound.. Of course I did a lap around the Tonawanda plant last weekend when I was going through...somehow crossing paths with every Mk.1V ever produced seemed necessary?. ![]() ~ Pete

Jeff's right on that 80 degree Mid week temp. This morning we have 5 inches of mini-hail that has solidified into a 5 inch thick sheet of ice. I drove the 3/4 tone diesel Suburban out this morning and it didnt even crack the surface of the ice on the driveway.
It was quite entertaining this morning watching the three dogs run out the back steps into the backyard. No traction, they just kept going and going, sliding in circles and bouncing off each other like canine bumper cars. You could hear their nails scratching the ice the whole way, like a fingernails on a giant chalkboard. They actually enjoyed it. They keep wanting to go back out and play some more. Then of course the kids got the same idea and broke out the old snow-saucers. |

Man, 3.5 hours of chipping 5-6" of packed sleet. I had to dig out the hood scoop on the 2000 SS before I could even fire it up to position it best in the sun to help melt it. I'm sure the plows will come back around and bury the end of the driveway at least 1 more time. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have a cold.

Spent all day moving 20-24" of snow. I had a great time with the kids. You just never know what the northeast will bring! The nova will have to spend a couple more weeks in its sleeping bag!

They're saying we may have just had the longest recorded sleet event in US history(since they've been keeping records). But nobody really pays too much attention to sleet storms so they don't have a list to reference like snowstorms. But we had continuous sleet for at least 15 hours before I went to sleep and it was still going. Crazy weather, but sleet is much better to deal with than freezing rain which would have brought down trees and power lines. And they're calling for 60's again later this week!
