[ QUOTE ]
ive been predicting this for years, and think its a great thing. fair is fair. why should somebody selling a 100k Camaro on ebay not have to pay capital gains taxes on the sale, but if i sold a 100k house,i would have to report any gains as income? this should end the blatant tax fraud committed by ebayers every day. [/ QUOTE ] Not to rub it in but up here in Canada we do not pay taxes on profits from the sale of residential property (nor do we pay tax on lottery winnings!) ![]()

[/ QUOTE ] No that is because we pay 14% in our province on everything else.We are taxed to death up here compared to the US. I compare all the time with my brother in West Virginia it is ureal the differences. With respect to e-bay no used parts should be taxed. New I can see it. |

[ QUOTE ]
Does the Canadian government make you pay taxes up there in US dollars like you guys ask for when you sell cars... [/ QUOTE ] We use a "metic" dollar in Canada just like we have gas in liters rather than gallons. Right now our metric dolar is worth about 85cents on your dollar. As far as car parts and cars are concerned we have felt the US dollar is a universal currency that keeps everything even. Call it a modern day auto pact. Given the fact that the rest of the auto industry deals in pesos euros or yen its seems only fair to give our southern neighbours a break and keep one currency for all collector car transactions. This policy will remain in effect right up until our metric dollar exceeds the value of your Yankee/dixie dollar and at that point we will be glad to sell in metric funds. Regarding the whole housing and tax thing,do you guys still get to write off your mortgage interest up to a certain amount? We dont! When we die our kids dont have to pay taxes on the value of our estate. It all works out fairly evenly in the end other than the part that really ticks me off is the government wanting $14.00 in taxes on a 40 year old car part that cost me $100.00. While they are collecting money from me someone is smuggling drugs into the country. Priorities I guess!!

Or charging us 28.00 on a 100.00 purchase because the seller forgot what the auction closed for and just threw 200 on the declaration slip, or the shipping is included in the value of the item on the slip so we are taxed on the shipping also or the item was shippid UPS us USPS and a broker is hired at a flat rate of $25.00 plus regardless if it is a 10.00 item. I could go on and on.Welcome to Canada.

Guys!
U.S. Treasury Agents went to the Englishtown NJ swap meet about 5 years ago and actually confiscated several vendors merchandise due to non payment of taxes from the events. Actually, they weren't even charging for state or federal tax and that is what got them screwed. I too have been preaching this about eBay for several years now. Once eBay & Paypal became one, there was an automatic electronic database of auctions, purchase amounts, bank accounts, you name it. No where to run and hide anymore. Time to pay up. ![]()

The federal government could collect much more revenue from a national sales tax... but then they would have no way of knowing where people really were inside the borders... it is all about the government knowing where you are and what you are doing, how much money you are making... and nothing like the threat of a visit from the Gustoppo to keep the populous in line.
