I found out last night that he actually was one of the ones that purchased the car in 1970. Does this still go along with #36?

I'm not sure what you mean with this question. I don't know very much about the history of #36, but since it's a FG, 4sp car originally from Gibb - it has a higher probability of being dealer transferred to another dealer.

I'm just guessing it was one of the ones that did not sell in 69... Didn't they have a hard time selling them at first? I thought I remembered reading somewhere that about 30 unsold cars were returned to Chevy and it took until the early 70s to sell them off.

Yes, that is correct. I would speculate that your dad's car was one of the cars sent back, and dealer transfered from Gibb to another dealer.

I vaguely recall that #36 was found in MD or VA, and had it's vin mis-registered with the state. I'm not sure that the subsequent owners found out which dealer it was sold from. Does your dad have any paperwork from the car, old registrations, insurance papers, loan documents... anything?

I don't think so. I don't even think he has any photos of it. I told him about one going up at auction for $880,000 and he was pretty shocked (I know they all don't go for that). I told him he should have just parked it in a garage and never traded it in. I guess back then he didn't fully realize what he had.

Hindsight....

What did your dad do with the car while he owned it? Was a daily driver, street racer, weekend warrior.... Any cool stories about outrunning the cops...

And some of them are saying that from just a couple of years back!

Welcome Allison. I'm betting you'll find the answers to all your questions right here. You're off to a pretty good start with ol' YDR. He seems to know a 'little' about these cars ( ), and there are a few more here who can fill in the other blanks.
Let me be the first to say that we'd all be interested in ANYTHING your Dad has to offer in the way of information or stories about the car. That's how the history of these things is compiled; from first-hand information.

( OK, so I'm the SECOND one to ask!)

Some of them did like the three original Gibb car owner and sYc members, Ray Morrison (68 427 Gibb Nova), Ken Barnhardt (69 ZL-1 Camaro) and Dennis Cumby (70 Gibb LS-6).
