The chalk mark was applied to denote the trim package for that body and was abbreviated in relation to the X codes on the tags. This was done on early cars before the trim tags were coded. Obviously, "X6" refers to X66 = 396 SS car.

Would this also apply to 1968 Camaros built in the Norwood plant?

I've never heard of the chalk mark on anything but the 1969s.
