Was thinking they were still using Gold Dust into the early '70s? Not sure when liquid VHT became widespread...maybe they used bleach?

Not to mention 'chemical accelerant' for that FIRE thing!

Heck, we even had guys using Coke and Pepsi syrup! They claimed it made the tires 'Stickier'! All it really did was attract Ants!

Has anyone heard of this being used on the street or track in the late 60s?

Here are some Pics from when the Alessi Brothers/Select Performance campaigned the Copo.

Here is a cool email which was shared with a previous owner. Bob and Rich Tice were young neighborhood kids when Vinney had the Copo.

"I was told about your project Vitar Camaro by my brother Bob. He and I along with a few friends met Vinnie the day he drove his Camaro to his shop in Brooklyn N.Y. We were out riding our bicycles,
and being very much into cars at the time were immediately thrilled by the sight and sound of that '69 COPO. It looked like a run of the mill Camaro, but we could tell something special was lurking under the hood!
Vinnie's shop became a regular hangout for us after school as we watched the Camaro transformed into a drag car. I even built a model of the car (long gone now) and showed it to Vinnie. He was always only too happy to accomodate us kids, even allowing us into the shop to look at all the projects he was working on, great guy! I remember the day we waxed the car for him.
I can't remember ever taking any pictures of the car, so I can't help you there, but I understand you're not sure whether to go the original COPO route, or do the car up as the drag car it soon became. I think as a COPO car it will be impressive, but done as the drag car would give it
an extra measure of nostalgia for those who were familiar with it and make it a one of a kind car (my .02).
Good luck with your work, I know what it's like having done my own restorations over the years."
Rich (Tice)
