How do you intend on painting the block? Spray gun, rattle can, primer, etc.

Looks like a minimum amount of filler needed to smooth it out.

Straight out of the Orange Engine Paint Can (Rattle) LOL.......After Assy, I'll just clean it real good with Laquer Thinner and Paint it.......Never had a problem......
Remember, this is a 6 month Garage Resto......

By the way......when I brought the Car back to the Body Shop, I had to clean it of all the Dust and Media material before the owner would let me put it in the Shop.......and even then I had to put it in the Dirty Room.....LOL.......As you remember, he's a Clean Freak
