I leave all the electrical systems hooked up with no problems to date. I don't use it on sealed batterys from Antique or Restoration Battery as the instruction that come with those batteries advise against it. You should check the water level monthly on any battery that is charging even when using a trickle charger. They do work on tractors and off-road equipment as well as gate openers. Some off-road equipment, golf carts, etc may require 6VDC. I don't have those but you can order those directly from "Battery Tender" online.
