I can only tell you this: I bought my M/T big block covers new in '69 and they had "427" cast into the round circle next to the center. That always bothered me 'cause my engine was a 396 L-78 at the time. I didn't want anyone thinking I had a bigger motor than I did. It hurt the odds.
